TELARC
1.Zona Desperata (9:23)
Composed and arranged by Al Di Meola

Al Di Meola, Godin electric-acoustic, Conde acoustic, VG88, percussion-bombo • Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Fender Rhodes • Anthony Jackson, Fodera electric contra bass • Gumbi Ortiz, congas-percussion • Mario Parmisano, acoustic piano, synths, marimba • Alejandro Santos, flutes • Jean Valdes, alto sax • Guillermo Ruiz, alto sax • Williams Polledo, trumpet

This piece sets the pace for this recording. There are three distinct parts with one of my favorites in the final section; trading with Gonzalo Rubacalba

2.Innamorata (8:38)
Composed and arranged by Al Di Meola

Al Di Meola, Conde acoustic, Godin electri-acoustic, Roland VG88, percussion (bombo, klong drum, dumbek, tarbuka, tympani) • Anthony Jackson, Fodera electric contra bass • Mario Parmisano, acoustic piano, synths • Alejandro Santos, pan pipes, flute • Gumbi Ortiz, congas, cajone • Ernie Adams, drums • Monserat, intro vocal

This is the first piece I wrote for this recording. It encompasses all of what I have absorbed in these last few years with the attitude and energy of my early recordings.

3.Meninas (5:41)
Composed by Egberto Gismonti, arranged by Al Di Meola and Mario Parmisano

Al Di Meola, Conde acoustic • Mario Parmisano, acoustic piano • Anthony Jackson, electric bass • Alejandro Santos, bass flute

"Meninas" in Portuguese is the word for "girls". It is one of my all-time favorite Gismonti compositions. I felt urged to call Egberto in Brazil and ask him for the chart, especially for this recording. When hearing this incredible melody on long trips, I had always gotten an intense feeling, missing my two beautiful daughters, Oriana and Valentina.

4.Flesh On Flesh (5:57)
Composed and arranged by Al Di Meola

Al Di Meola, Godin electric-acoustic, Ovation acoustic-electric, VG88, Conde acoustic, cymbals • Alejandro Santos, flutes • Anthony Jackson, Fodera electric contra bass • Mario Parmisano, acoustic piano, synths, calliope • Gumbi Ortiz, congas, cajone

This piece was inspired by the heavy Cuban culture, incredible sights, and imagery that exist in Miami where this entire project was recorded.

5.Fugata (5:46)
Composed by Astor Piazzolla, arranged by Al Di Meola

Al Di Meola, Conde acoustic, drums, Godin electric-acoustic, VG88, percussion-dumbek • Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Fender Rhodes • Anthony Jackson, Fodera electric contra bass • Gumbi Ortiz, congas, cajone • Mario Parmisano, acoustic piano, synths • Alejandro Santos, flute

I always loved playing and changing the strict rhythmic structure of one of my heroes, composer Astor Piazzolla. This one sounds as if Havana and Buenos Aires meet, due to the heavily inflicted syncopation.

6.Deep And Madly (1:45)
Composed and arranged by Al Di Meola

Al Di Meola, Ovation acoustic-electric, VG88, drum-programming • Mike Renna, Engineer

7.Saffire Soleil (4:11)
Composed and arranged by Al Di Meola

Al Di Meola, 1958 Les Paul electric, Conde acoustic, Godin electric-acoustic, VG-88 • Anthony Jackson, Fodera electric contra bass • Alejandro Santos, flutes • Mario Parmisano, acoustic piano • Ernie Adams, drums

This piece reminds me of something from an avant-garde circus, perhaps along the same premise as the renowned "Cirque du Soleil".

8.Senor Mouse (9:24)
Composed by Chick Corea, arranged by Al Di Meola

Al Di Meola, Fender strat guitar, Conde acostic, Ovation acoustic, drums • Anthony Jackson, Fodera electric contra bass • Mario Parmisano, acoustic piano

I originally recorded this Chick Corea classic on my "Casino" recording in 1978, with Anthony Jackson on bass. The 2002 version is a completely new funky rendition, with myself on drums and Stratocastor guitar (not at the same time!), Mario on acoustic piano, and Anthony Jackson in a kind of jame-like version.
